Antler Slotting Saws

These are a variety of slotting saws for antler and wood. The top three have shaker peg handles. The bottom two have saw blades which I made.

1-3 The top three are made from reciprocating saw blades available at most lumber yards and hardware stores. The blade shapes have modified by grinding but the teeth have not. The teeth look to be 14 teeth per inch.
4-5 I made the saw blades on these. #4 was made from 3/32” (.093”) precision ground flat stock, probably O1 tool steel. and is not quite 3/4” wide.
#5 is made from a piece of 1/16” spring steel, 1095 carbon steel. These are not heat treated, antler is soft compared to the steel. It would be easy to “freshen” up the blades with a file if they get dull, just as with a hand saw.

Note: The tooth count on the slitting saws I made is about 12 per inch. When filing the teeth in the blade it was done with the “eyeball” method, no measurement was taken, file 1, file 2, file 3 etc., one after another. The blades on 4 and 5 are about 4 1/4” long, it took perhaps 1-2 hours to file each if memory serves me right, it was a long time ago.
